THE HILL THAT LEADS FAR AWAY
I don’t know the road, but I know the way.
Enrico Rivetto

The Magnetic Hill
Lirano has always been a hill, at least since the Langhe emerged from the seabed twelve million years ago. At the beginning of the twentieth century, it was a lively village whose inhabitants worked the vineyards and fields of the Vassallo family.
Lirano is a magnetic hill, a place crossed by contrasting natural forces, yet it remains balanced. A middle ground between Alta Langa and the Barolo hills, a ridge between Sinio and Serralunga d’Alba, among woods and vineyards, amidst the Alps and the Ligurian Sea.
Lirano is an agricultural living organism, a complex ecosystem where biodynamic cultivation represents the change in my paradigm, in my way of doing and being a farmer, and in my relationship with the land
Lirano is my small corner of conscience.

Cultural
Diversity!
You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret: all the best people are.
Alice in Wonderland
Monoculture has no place in Lirano. The vine peacefully lives with hedges, medicinal herbs and wheat fields. Tall trees, vegetable gardens and orchards grow between the rows. Acres of woods that are centuries-old stretch all around the property. There is a pond that collects rainwater, an area for donkeys and an extensive space for the maturation of compost, which I use to fertilize the land. In Lirano, diversified farming is the rule that I have followed with determination and devotion: because biodiversity is the cornerstone of the agricultural revolution that I have adopted for all crops.
Soil
Lirano is part of the municipality of Sinio, but it geographically belongs to the hills of Serralunga d’Alba.
The soils are characterized by The Lequio Formation, presenting alternating layers of gray marl and yellow sand that originated from deep sea beds due to the relentless erosive action of the rivers. Predominantly silty, the soil contains sand and clay. It can retain rainwater deep underground, even during dry periods: this helps the vines to develop harmoniously.
Microclimate
The altitude of about 400 meters asl and the presence of extensive woodlands give Lirano a “hybrid” microclimate, somewhere between the ones in Alta and Bassa Langa. An area mitigated by favorable temperatures, it enjoys good ventilation. Excellent sunlight and clear air are crucial elements that endow the wines with intense aromas and natural freshness.
